Truong Nguyen Thanh Nhan was crowned the winner of the Mekong Delta
Cycling Tournament which closed yesterday in Kien Giang Province.
HA NOI (VNS)— Truong Nguyen Thanh Nhan was crowned the winner of the Mekong Delta Cycling Tournament which closed yesterday in Kien Giang Province.
Nhan, representing the Sai Gon Plant Protection team, completed the eight stages of the tour in a time of 21hr 20.46min.
Tang Chi Hung of ADC-Vinh Long Television and Nguyen Quoc Dinh of Ben Tre were second and third, seven seconds behind Nhan.
Huynh Van Thuan of Vinh Long pocketed his second stage win as he finished first in the 152km-long stretch between Ha Tien town and Long Xuyen City.
Thuan was among a group of five who led the whole pack from the 150km mark. He managed to edge past his competitors in the last few metres to complete the victory in a time of 3:31.43.
Tran Nguyen Minh Tri of Dong Thap 2 and Tran Thanh Phu of the Military team were second and third respectively.
Yellow jersey holder Nhan finished 10th.
The tour's green jersey for best sprinter went to Le Van Duan of Eximbank HCM City after two stage wins. Duan narrowly replaced leader Ivan Dominguez of TRU Cycling-Tamouh Phu My yesterday to steal the title with 106 points.
Finishing fifth overall, Phan Thai Hoang of Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap 2 was named the best youth cyclist.His team took the team title after leading the rankings from the beginning of the tournament.
Dong Thap 2 timed 64:09.48, followed by Phu My (64:11.40) and An Giang Plant Protection (64:14.06).
This morning athletes will take part in a time trial race, cycling 30 laps around Long Xuyen City to compete for individual bonuses.
The awards ceremony will be organised after the trial. — VNS
