Nhien, Dong win first golds at national championships

HCM CITY  (VNS) — Truong Thi Bich Nhien sprinted to win the first event of the National Road Race Cycling Championships which was kicked off in Vung Tau City yesterday.

Nhien of Dong Thap completed the women's 30km point trial with a result of 45min 31sec. Nhien also pocketed the maximum 15 points. She was followed by Pham Hong Loan from Binh Duong (eight points) and Pham Thi Thuy Lien of HCM City (six points).

On the men's side, national team member Le Van Dong of Can Tho successfully topped the 48km race, bagging 25 points.

Quang Van Cuong from Ha Noi had one point less and took a silver while his teammate Trinh Duc Tam got a bronze with 20 points.

The second event of individual time trial will be held today with the women's cycle 30km race and the men 40km race.

More than 150 athletes have taken part in the seven-event championship which will close on October 20. — VNS
