HA NOI (VNS) — Obon, a traditional Japanese festival, will be celebrated on August 9 and 10 at Times City in Ha Noi.

Like the Vietnamese Vu Lan festival, the Obon festival is dedicated to worshipping the spirits of one's ancestors. During the festival, Japanese people light lanterns in front of their houses to guide their loved ones' spirits home. In Kyoto, five large fires are lit on the mountains surrounding the city.

Ha Noi's festival features both traditional and modern cultural activities, including a Bon Odori parade, Yosakoi performance and cosplay.

A manga and anime display will also be set up alongside fashion and cooking shows.

Entrance to the festival is free. The event is co-organised by Ha Noi - Amsterdam High School Culture Club and Yotsuba Viet Nam - Japan Culture Club. — VNS
