HA NOI (VNS) – The song Chiec Khan Pieu (the Pieu Scarf), about the beauty of the traditional scarf of Thai ethnic people, won the title "Song of the Year" at the final Favourite Songs show and award ceremony in HCM City last night.
Composed by Doan Nho in 1956, the song was performed by Tung Duong. It headed off Nguoi Hat Tinh Ca (The Person who Sings the Love Song) following a vote by the audience.
"I am very touched the song won the award," said 80-year-old Nho. "I will continue to write other songs for young people."
Nho received VND300 million (US$14,000) in prize money while singer Tung Duong was paid VND1 billion ($47,000).
The Favourite Song show is broadcast on Vietnamese Television on the first Sunday of every month. The top song is chosen each month to go into the final which was held last night.
According to the organising committee, the show is not a competition but a survey of the music tastes of audiences. VNS
