HA NOI (VNS)— Palestinian daily Alhayat Aljadeeda is publishing excerpts from an Arabic translation of Dien Bien Phu: 5 Dieu Ky Dieu Chua Tung Thay Trong Lich Su Chien Tranh (Dien Bien Phu: Five Miracles Never Seen Before in War History), a popular book on General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013) and the historic Dien Bien Phu battle.

The Vietnamese book, written by Mai Trong Tuan, was first published in 2011 and recently translated into Arabic by Palestinian ambassador to Viet Nam Saadi Salama.

According to Salama, this is the first Vietnamese book translated into Arabic and has been widely introduced in Arabic media. The translation aims to help locals understand more about legendary General Giap as well as Viet Nam's history.

"With the Dien Bien Phu victory, General Vo Nguyen Giap became a revolutionary role model," Salama said. "He was one of the most famous military generals in human history." — VNS
