HA NOI (VNS) — An art show titled Tinh Nghe Sy will raise funds to help elderly and disadvantaged artists.
The Viet Nam Theatre Artists' Association and Vietnamese artists are working together to organise the show, which will coincide with Viet Nam's Theatrical Day on August 22. It will be held at the Au Co Arts Centre on Huynh Thuc Khang Street.
According to Le Tien Tho, chairman of Viet Nam Theatre Artists' Association, many elderly or sick artists live in poor conditions across the country.
Some artists have organised shows in recent years to support their senior colleagues. In this spirit, the association decided to hold a special show to draw participation from artists and the public, who will be encouraged to donate, he said.
Many renowned Vietnamese artists will joint the event, including Kim Tien, Hong Lien and Luong Nguyet Anh. Actor Han Van Tinh will also join, having returned to health after a fight with lung cancer.
"The artists' life in Viet Nam is actually very difficult and salaries are low," Tinh said.
"Tinh Nghe Sy is a very meaningful event and a big encouragement to disadvantaged artists everywhere. Through this show I want to express my gratitude to the public and my colleagues, who have wholeheartedly supported me through a difficult time. I also want to do my small part and help out others."
Visitors and benefactors can contribute by either purchasing tickets to the show or sending donations directly to the Viet Nam Theatre Artists' Association. All the money collected from tickets and donations will be used to assist sick or disadvantaged artists across the country.
Before this event, art events have been held seeking donations for poor artists – like the Chia Se Yeu Thuong (Sharing Love) music show by singer Dam Vinh Hung, which benefited actress Hoang Lan. — VNS
