HCM CITY (VNS)— An exhibition featuring 800 photographs of Vietnamese youth volunteers working in both rural and urban areas in Viet Nam and neighbouring countries opened yesterday at the HCM City Youth Cultural House.
The exhibition marks 20 years of the Green Summer Volunteer Campaign which was ignited 20 years ago.
The Ho Chi Minh Youth Union's HCM City chapter is showing the photographs in four other locations: Lam Son Park, Chi Lang Park, Dong Khoi Street and Dam Sen Theme Park.
It estimates that the city's youth contributed 30 million workdays worth VND400 billion (US$19 million) over the last 20 years, making a significant contribution to the nation's socio-economic development.
Several other activities are being held to mark the Green Summer campaign's milestone.
These include an official ceremony at the Dam Sen Theme Park in District 11 this Sunday and a programme at the HCM City Youth Cultural House today, tomorrow and Sunday during which former volunteers will share their experiences.
The Green Summer Volunteer Campaign, which took this name since 1997, was first launched 20 years ago as an annual campaign for youth to improve literacy in rural areas. It was first called Chien Dich Anh Sang Van Hoa He (Summer Literacy Campaign). — VNS
