HCM CITY (VNS)— A photo exhibition of works about Viet Nam's people and natural landscape opened yesterday at the HCM City-based Rex Hotel Saigon.

The exhibition displays 131 photos depicting the beauty of nature, daily life and traditional customs, festivals, local gastronomy and the hospitality of the Vietnamese.

They were selected from more than 7,100 works submitted to the photography contest Tan Huong Ban Sac Viet (Savour Viet Nam), jointly organised by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper and Saigontourist from July 2014 to April 2015.

Vu Quoc Khanh, chairman of Vietnamese Artistic Photographers Association, said the event attracted thousands of professional and amateur photographers from Viet Nam and other countries.

The first prize went to Khanh Hoa Province-based Vu Ngoc Hoang's Sac Mau Que Huong (The Country's Colours) featuring a peaceful scene of a small village in Da Nang.

The runners-up were Dam Am Que Nha (Cosy Hometown) by Nguyen Vinh Hien of Vinh Long Province and Kenh Nhieu Loc Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh Ngay Hom Nay (Nhieu Loc Canal in HCM City Today) by Nguyen Van Hai of Thua Thien-Hue Province.

A 200-page book, Tan Huong Ban Sac Viet, including more than 200 photos from the exhibition, was also released at the event.
