DA LAT (VNS)– Many artists have found inspiration in the forest. But photographer Nguyen Van Phuoc, who goes by the name MPK (Crazy Michael Phuoc), has branched out in an unusual direction.

Struck by the veins on the surface of pine trees that had been chopped down, he used the unusual medium to create portraits of local artists. The resulting images are currently on display in Da Lat, the Central Highlands city where the photographer lives and works.

In his 30-year career, the photographer has held nearly 30 exhibitions on various natural motifs such as sunlight, dew and insects. Last year, he showed photos of transparent pine resin, which looked like tears through his lens, to call on people to stop cutting down the trees.

The exhibition will run until the end of next year at XQ Embroidery Company, 258 Mai Anh Dao Street, Da Lat. — VNS
