Phú Quốc City of the Cửu Long (Mekong) River Delta province of Kiên Giang will host cultural events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of South Việt Nam's liberation and Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labour Day (May 1).

KIÊN GIANG Phú Quốc Island City of the southern province of Kiên Giang will host cultural events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of South Việt Nam's liberation and Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labour Day (May 1).
The Phú Quốc Culture, Tourism and Cuisine Festival, to be organised from April 27 to May 5 by the Kiên Giang Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Centre, will be the island’s biggest festivity.
The event will include 80 stalls presenting traditional crafts, cuisine, and socio-economic achievements of Phú Quốc.
It will also feature tourism products and services, new specilality products of Phú Quốc and Kiên Giang Province as a whole. Traditional food, folk music and games will be featured as well.
Along with the festival, a Fish Sauce Craft Fair, the first of its kind, is slated to open on April 28-30 in the city.
The event, organised by the Phú Quốc Fish Sauce Association, aims to honour the traditional craft of making fish sauce and raise awareness of preservation and promotion of local cultural heritage.
It also contributes to expanding the brand name of Phú Quốc fish sauce on domestic and international markets.
The event will showcase fish sauce products by local makers and introduce signature dishes made from fish sauce.
It will also include a conference on trade promotion and tourism stimulation in Phú Quốc, and a workshop on developing fish sauce products.
Phú Quốc fish sauce was the first product in Việt Nam to receive geographical indication status in 2001.
In 2013, the European Union granted the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) certificate to Phú Quốc fish sauce.
The making of fish sauce in Phú Quốc was recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2021.
Both festival and fair will take place at the Phú Quốc Culture and Sports Centre. VNS
