Phu Quoc's time to shine in national year of tourism

DA NANG (VNS) — The southern Kien Giang Province will host Road shows and tourism promotion programmes in Japan, Korea, Singapore and France as the province's Phu Quoc Island hosts "Visit Viet Nam 2016 – Phu Quoc-Mekong Delta".

Director of the provincial department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Tran Chi Dung said at a press conference in Da Nang city yesterday the island and 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta River will host 65 events and programmes throughout 2016.

He said Rach Gia City will debut the introduction of the national tourism year in January.

"The province plans to join ASEAN tourism forum in Manila, the Philippines in January; International Berlin Exhibition in Germany from March 9 to 13 and Viet Nam International Trade Fair – Viet Nam EXPO in Ha Noi on April 6 to 9, and the International Tourism Exhibition in HCM City in September," Dung said.

"It's an opportunity for the province and Phu Quoc Island to introduce its beach destinations to tourists all over the world next summer. The provincial Phu Quoc Island has linked destinations in Thailand and Cambodia in building up ‘Three Nations – One Destination'," he said.

Dung said Phu Quoc Island also has built connections with Kep beach in Cambodia and Singapore in boosting tourism year during next summer vacation.

He said the province has prepared 8,000 rooms for hosting the expected bumper tourism next year.

Kien Giang will host Ministers Meeting from ASEAN, Russia, Japan and Korea in an effort that promotes tourism and co-operation during the National Year of Tourism.

The Phu Quoc Island with 50km of coastline and 15 pristine beaches has been the most favourite destination in Kien Giang Province in recent years with 40 per cent growth annually. — VNS
