Coach Hoang Van Phuc is expected to take over as caretaker manager of the national U23 team instead of coach Phan Thanh Hung who is busy with the national team.

In preparation for the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar next year, the U23 team will convene on November 10 and compete in the Binh Duong Television Cup.

Players who impressed at the recent Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper International U21 Football Championships are likely to be called up for the cup, including Nguyen Manh, Hoang Thinh, Duy Thanh, Dinh Bao, Phi Son and Minh Tuan.

The BTV Cup, which is scheduled to take place on November 16, will attract eight teams divided into two groups. Group A is made up of hosts Binh Duong, the Viet Nam U23 team, Thailand's Chonburi and Uganda's Express FC, while SHB Da Nang, Sai Gon Xuan Thanh, Brazil's Gremio and Japan's Fukoaka have been drawn in Group B. — VNS
