HA NOI (VNS)— Le Huu Phuoc won the final and seventh stage of the Cycling to the Countryside Tournament yesterday, while Ha Thanh Tam emerged as the overall winner.
Phuoc from Military Zone 7 clocked a top speed of 40.344 kmph during the 56km stage from Chau Giang ferry station to Thuan Giang ferry station in Phu Tan District, An Giang Province. He completed the stage in one hour, 23 minutes and 17 seconds.
Quang Van Cuong of Ha Noi and Tran Van Du of Binh Duong finished second and third.
Although Tam of Vinh Binh Rice-An Giang trailed behind the leaders in the final stage, he held onto the overall yellow jersey with a total time of 17:01.12.
Young cyclist Huynh Thanh Tung of Military Zone 7 was just behind Tam, finishing second with a total time of 17:01.18. Third place went to Nguyen Huu Tien of Ha Noi.
Tam also won the green jersey for scoring the most points with a total of 87 after seven stages.
Vinh Binh Rice-An Giang won the team title with a combined time of 51:05.53, followed by Vinh Long and Binh Duong.
In the amateur event, Nguyen Hoang Sang of Gau A Luot 5-Long Xuyen City overcame teammate Nguyen Van Huong to grab the yellow jersey with a time of 17:01.10.
The event, which attracted 90 riders from 18 teams competing over seven stages, offered total cash prizes of VND325 million (US$15,600). — VNS
