Phuoc swims to freestyle victory

HA NOI (VNS)— Swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc brought home a gold medal in the men's 100m freestyle at the ongoing Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea, yesterday.

He finished first with a time of 48.98 seconds.

During the previous days of competition, Phuoc grabbed one silver in the 200m freestyle and one bronze in the 100m butterfly discipline.

In the billiards, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen beat Gholam Antoine of Lebanon in the men's 3 cushion single quarter-finals to reach the semi-finals where he will face fellow coutryman Ma Xuan Cuong after the latter defeated Cho Jaeho of South Korea.

Kieu Thien Khoi defeated Babayev Kamaladdin of Turkmenistan in the men's snooker single round of 64.

In the women's 10 ball single round of 16, Huynh Thi Ngoc Huyen lost to Cha Youram of South Korea.

In the men's classical chess round 6, Jumabayev Rinat bested Nguyen Duc Hoa while Pham Le Thao Nguyen tied with Subbaraman Meenakshi of New Delhi and Nguyen Thi Thanh An beat Farha Doha of Syria on the women's side.

In the U71kg men's kickboxing full contact, round 16, Tran Thanh Y beat Visal Kumar from Independent Olympic Athletes 3-0; Phan Van Yen was defeated by Almalkee Ahmad Hassan Majed of Iraq 3-0 in the men's U63kg low kick, round 16.

In the swimming, teenager Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen got through the qualifying round of the women's 100m individual medley. — VNS
