HA NOI ( VNS ) — Hoang Quy Phuoc will have the honour of carrying the Vietnamese flag at the opening ceremony of the 28th Southeast Asian Games next month in Singapore.
The swimmer, who won a gold and two silver medals at the previous Games in Myanmar, is now training in China to defend his title in the men's 200m freestyle event and retake the top position in the 100m freestyle that he lost two years ago to Triady Fauzi Sidiq of Indonesia.
It is the third time Phuoc will be the country's flagbearer following the SEA Games in Myanmar and the Asian Games last year in South Korea.
The 392-member-Vietnamese contingent will compete in 28 out of 36 sports in Singapore from June 5-15. — VNS
