Da Nang's Hoang Quy Phuoc won a silver medal at the ongoing Southeast Asian (SEA) Swimming Championships in Singapore on Thursday.
Phuoc clocked a time of 50.80secs in the men's 100m freestyle to finish second. The gold medal belonged to the hosts' Yeo Kai Quan with a time of 50.66.
The 18-year-old Phuoc met Olympic B Standard at the Malaysian Swimming Open last year.
At the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia November 2012, Phuoc set a new SEA Games record in the men's 100m butterfly event.
Teammate Pham Thanh Nguyen also competed in this discipline, but with little success.
On Wednesday, teenager Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won two gold medals in the women's 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley.VNS
