HA NOI (VNS) — Truong Thi Phuong won the first gold medal for Viet Nam on the fourth day of the SEA Games in Singapore this morning.
Phuong won the women's canoeing 200m event with a time of 51.456 seconds. Thiangkathok Orasa of Thailand came second, followed by Riska Andriyani of Indonesia.
It is the first title won by the rowing-canoeing squad and the 27th for Viet Nam in the SEA Games.
Later, Do Thi Thanh Thao and Vu Thi Linh claimed a bronze medal in the women's K2 200m event. They finished after the Thailand and Singapore teams, respectively.
Meanwhile, Luu Kim Phung and Nguyen Thi Oanh qualified for the women's 100m event in athletics, and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and Le Thi My Thao entered the 200m butterfly final in swimming. Vin will also take part in the 200m freestyle final. Her teammate Hoang Quy Phuoc has advanced to the men's 100m butterfly final.
