HA NOI (VNS) — Late playwright Luu Quang Vu's four main plays will be performed in downtown Ha Noi to commemorate his 27
th death anniversary on August 29.
The show, entitled Luu Quang Vu – A Person of Dreamy World, will take place at 8pm from August 29 to September 1 at the Friendship Culture Palace, 91, Tran Hung Dao Street.
Artists from the youth theatre will perform Loi The Thu 9 (The Ninth Oath), Ai La Thu Pham (Who is the Culprit?) and Mua Ha Cuoi Cung (The Last Summer), while the Ha Noi Cheo Theatre will perform Nang Sita (Lady Sita).
The Ninth Oath condemns bureaucracy and injustice in the late 1980s in the country, while Who Is the Culprit features the stories of people living in the same living quarter in the same decade.
The Last Summer praises honesty and trust between people. Lady Sita is about love, loyalty and sacrifice.
All four plays are best-sellers of the country's theatre sector.
The event is being jointly organised by the Viet Nam National Drama Theatre, the Youth Theatre of Viet Nam, Viet Nam Cheo Theatre and Dong Do Art Culture Introduction JSC.
Luu Quang Vu (1948-88) was one of the most prominent personalities of the contemporary drama scene of Viet Nam.
Written in the 1970s and 1980s, Vu's plays are about real life and contain lessons about honesty, courage and struggle, which are still relevant now, while shunning bad and the wrong ideas.
He was killed in a road accident at the age of 40, just when his talent was at its peak. Vu left behind a huge legacy of 50 scripts. — VNS
