HA NOI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved a master plan to develop a tourism site in the northwestern province of Dien Bien by 2020.

The aim of the plan is to develop the 2,500ha Dien Bien Phu - Pa Khang tourism site into a national level site, with proper infrastructure and high-quality tourism products with a strong local identity. The site includes the Dien Bien Phu battle site, Pa Khoang Lake and Muong Phang Forest, which will be connected with other tourism sites in the midland and northern mountainous areas of the country.

According to the plan, by 2030, the site will welcome 1.5 million visitors, including 500,000 foreigners.

The plan also includes the forming of an international route from Dien Bien Phu, Laos, Thailand to Myanmar and other ASEAN countries through the Tay Trang and Huoi Puoc Na Son border gates.

The province's tourism revenue by 2030 will reach VND5,000 billion (US$220 million). The tourist sector work will attract about 30,000 people. — VNS
