THUA THIEN-HUE  (VNS) — Experts from Poland are helping to restore a stone steel in the Khiem Lang (Mausoleum) in Hue, which is the final resting place of the fourth king of the Nguyen dynasty.

The work includes restoring the decor, filling in cracks and clearing moss. The US$39,500 project is being funded by Poland's development and cooperation programme and contingency funds from the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre.

Polish experts also held a training course for local workers that ended on Wednesday. Staff from the centre have been equipped with restoration, research and planning skills.

King Tu Duc built the mausoleum in 1873 as his final resting place.

The king erected a huge stone steel at the site, one of the largest in the country, engraved with a poem about his modesty and shortcomings.

Khiem Lang is a popular tourist destination in Hue thanks to its beauty, which despite being manmade, looks natural. — VNS
