Fit for a King: A restoration project on Mausoleum of King Tu Duc will be implemented with Polish financial aid.

HA NOI (VNS)— Poland has committed VND840 million (roughly US$40,000) to fund a project to refurbish Mausoleum of King Tu Duc (1829-83) in the Hue royal heritage complex.

The aid, granted by Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and channeled through the Polish Embassy in Ha Noi, will be used to restore a stone stele house at the mausoleum and provide training to local people in preservation.

The restoration project will be carried out until December at a total cost of more than VND1 billion ($50,000), according to Nguyen Van Cao, chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial People's Committee.

King Tu Duc's mausoleum, built in 1864, is a typical example of traditional Hue architecture and one of the most important sites in royal relics complex, which has been recognised by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site.

Since 1993, the international community has granted nearly $6 million to help preserve intangible and tangible cultural heritage in Viet Nam. Poland is one of the first countries providing aid.-VNS
