HCM CITY — Pop star Siu Black will stage a solo in HCM City on this Friday featuring new performances in pop, dance and rock.

Siu, who is based in HCM City, will be accompanied by the Blue Music Company and her younger colleagues, including Tuan Hung, Minh Thu and Quang Ha.

The live show, called Siu Black 3S-Siu Show for Students, is part of her free concerts for students from universities in the city.

Siu will sing to an expected audience of 2,000 at the HCM City College of Industry and Trade.

"I will perform around 20 songs composed by veteran and young musicians," said Siu, a native of the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) province of Dak Lak.

The singer said she would provide her fans with something new. "Though I'll be singing the songs that shot me to fame, I think new styles are needed by performers," said the 45-year-old.

Evening highlights songs will include Ly Ca Phe Ban Me (A Cup of Ban Me Coffee), Doi Mat Pleiku (Eyes of Pleiku) and Rock Buon (Rock of Sadness).

She said her guests would perform something new but declined to reveal what that would be.

"You come, and you will know. We have worked hard to provide audiences with a great performance in professional way," she said.

After beginning her singing career in 1992, she won several prizes at singing contests and performed for urban and rural audiences around the country.

By singing songs in Tay Nguyen style, Siu became a pop phenomenon, even though she often received mixed reviews.

For the new show, Siu has spent time training her voice and working on her performance skills.

The free concert tour will end on July 20. — VNS
