HA NOI (VNS) — One-time golden boy Pham Van Quyen has announced his retirement at the age of 30.
"I am 30 years old. Ninh Binh have dropped me for our upcoming matches, so I asked the club chairman, Pham Van Le, to end the contract. Now I want to take care of my mother, start a business and get married," said Quyen.
Quyen was sentenced to two years in prison and was given a four-year suspension by the Viet Nam Football Federation following a match-fixing scandal involving the Viet Nam U23s at the 25th Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines in 2005.
Quyen is unlikely to be implicated in this match fixing scandal after Ninh Binh beat Malaysia's Kelatan 3-2 in the AFC Cup. — VNS
