HA NOI (VNS) — Tran Van Quyen of the Military team bested strong rivals to win the eighth stage of the Trans-Viet cycling tournament yesterday.
With a strong sprint, Quyen clocked a top speed of 40.108 km/h during the 62km stage from Ha Tinh city in Ha Tinh Province to Nghe An Province's Nam Dan District. He completed the event in 1hr 32.45min.
Nguyen Thanh Tam of Gao Hat Ngoc Troi overcame Le Nguyet Minh of HCM City's Vinamit to rank second.
Tam also held onto the yellow jersey for best overall time with a total time of 23:15.07, followed by Le Ngoc Son of Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap 1 and Laos' Ariya Phounsanath.
Son's teammate Do Tuan Anh of Dong Thap 1 won the green jersey for scoring the most points with a total of 151 points after eight stages.
In the team ranking, Dong Thap 1 led the team race with a combined time of 69:49.05, followed by ADC-Vinh Long Television and HCM City.
The athletes have a day off today. Tomorrow, they will compete in the ninth stage, 24 laps around Ha Noi's Hoan Kiem Lake. — VNS
