HCM CITY (VNS)— Nghia An Hoi Quan pagoda (also known as Ong pagoda), one of the oldest Chinese temples in HCM City, has been restored to its original glory and reopened to the public yesterday.

The restoration project cost VND66 billion (US$3.2 million) was funded by the city's Chinese community.

The restoration work took four years to complete.

The pagoda, which is located in District 5, was built more than 240 years ago and is dedicated to deified general Quan Cong (Guan Yu). It has been rebuilt for a number of times.

It was recognised as a national arts and architectural relic in 1993.

The famous tourist attraction in Cho Lon (China Town) is noteworthy for its carved wooden and stone arts and the art of Chinese calligraphy. — VNS
