HA NOI (VNS)– South Korean director Kim Ji-hoon and actress Han Ga-in will come to Viet Nam to work as special mentors at the Toto Filmmaking Class programme.
They will share their filming experience and judge short films produced by children on Thursday, July 11 at Megastar Parkson Paragon, HCM City. Director Kim will also give a lecture at the Sai Gon International Film School on July 10.
The programme, sponsored by CJ CGV, the largest theatre chain in South Korea, began three years ago in Seoul before being expanded to Beijing and HCM City. Students aged 11-15 living in the host country take part in the programme after being chosen through a contest.
According to CJ CGV, the programme is designed to bring a useful playground for children keen on cinematography this summer, driving them to learn more about the film industry and nurture their dreams of making films.
During the Viet Nam Toto's Filmmaking Programme which began last Friday, teenagers are taught the basics of filmmaking at the Sai Gon International Film School. They will learn to develop story ideas, write scripts and shoot and edit film. They will also produce five-minute films, the best of which will be screened at the Megastar Parkson Paragon.
Other members of the jury board include director Ngo Quang Hai who made Pao's Story and actress Mi Du who starred in Thien Menh Anh Hung (The Blood Letter).
It is the second time Kim, director of the film The Tower, has participated in the event. He also appeared at the 2012 China Beijing Toto's Showroom.
"Last year, I was touched by the great passion the children showed for film," said Kim. "I came to participate again in Viet Nam Toto's Showroom to help these children realise their dreams."
Actress Han, who starred in The Moon Embracing the Sun, said she hoped children from different countries could better understand each other through cultural events and films made by themselves. – VNS
