The former home of French Dr Alexandre Emile Jean Yersin, a well-known figure to many Vietnamese, has become an attractive tourist destination in Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province.
Yersin's house is located on the peak of Hon Ba Hill, 1,600m above sea level, and about 56km southwest of Nha Trang City. The house has an intimate atmosphere, with a table set for guests and a small bed where Yersin liked to rest. His office and a small museum are located upstairs.
The hill, which is located on a mountain range spanning the four districts of Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, Cam Lam and Dien Khanh, was chosen by Yersin as a centre for plantation and breeding of animals used in experiments for the treatment of malaria.
Visitors to Hon Ba Hill can see an old tea tree planted by Yersin in 1915 as well as his small rock garden with many medicinal plants, tools and irrigation pipes.-VNS
