HA NOI (VNS) — The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents will screen director Bui Thac Chuyen's Choi Voi (Adrift, 2009) tomorrow night for the "Friday Night with Viet Nam Cinema" programme.
Newlywed Duyen's excitement begins to fade as she realises her young husband is not only sexually naive, but overly occupied by his job and doting mother. As her marriage goes unconsummated and her emotional isolation grows, she reaches out to her closest girlfriend, Cam, who secretly desires her, but pushes her into the arms of a dangerous and provocative suitor.
The film won the Fipresci International Critics Prize at the 66th Venice Film Festival in 2013 and received three nominations at the Asia Film Awards for Best Script Writer, Best Director of Photography and Best Composer, besides numerous national prizes.
The 110-minute drama will be shown in Vietnamese with English subtitles. The screening starts at 8pm, at 51 Tran Hung Dao, Ha Noi.— VNS
