HCM CITY  (VNS) — Annette Herfkens, the sole survivor of a plane crash in Khanh Hoa Province 22 years ago, will return to Viet Nam to meet people who supported her during the accident and share her experiences with Vietnamese readers.

The woman, who has written about the crash and her experience in the book Turbulence: A Survival Story, will arrive in HCM City with her daughter on Monday and later revisit O Kha Valley, where the plane with flight code VN-474 crashed in 1992.

In Viet Nam, besides meeting representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam, and Nguyen Thanh Chung, a military official in Khanh Son District, who led the rescue search force and found the plane, the Dutch woman will attend an exchange with local media organised by Tri Viet Book Company, which has published her book in Vietnamese.

After the accident on November 14, 1992, Herfkens maintained an optimistic spirit, struggling to survive during a difficult eight-day period, despite serious injuries.

Her fiance, Willem van der Pas, other 31 passengers and the crew members on flight 474 of Vietnam Airlines from HCM City to Nha Trang all died after the crash, which occurred about 19 miles (more than 30km) away from Nha Trang, their destination. — VNS
