A sports day for visually impaired children will kick off today at Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Ha Noi, with participants competing in football, chess, and a running event.
Organised by the British Embassy in Ha Noi and Nguyen Dinh Chieu School, the event is in response to the ongoing London 2012 Paralympic Games, appealing to everyone to support disability sports and create a more open and inclusive society.
The Games also aims to encourage more people with disabilities into sport at a grassroots level in order to help discover the next generation of Paralympians and demonstrate how sport can enrich the lives of everybody.
"The Embassy is honoured to be a co-organiser of this event," said Kate Harrisson, deputy head of the embassy in Ha Noi. "We want to raise people's awareness of the need to provide more support to people with disabilities in Viet Nam to enable them to integrate into the community and to access sports."-VNS
