HA NOI — A new postage stamp has been issued to celebrate the 100th birthday of late President Vo Chi Cong (1912-2011).

The stamp was designed by painter Vu Kim Lien and issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications and VietnamPost.

Cong was born into a patriotic intellectual family in the central province of Quang Nam. Following the liberation of South Viet Nam and national reunification in 1975, Cong was appointed to a number of important positions in the Party and Government. He was Chairman of the State Council (1987-91) a member of the Politburo, Party Central Committee Secretary, an advisor to the Party Central Committee and a deputy to the 6th, 7th and 8th National Assemblies.-VNS
