Star runner cut down by motorbike


Star middle-distance runner Truong Thanh Hang was seriously injured when a motorbike rider crashed into her when she was training in Da Nang last week.

Star middle-distance runner Truong Thanh Hang was seriously injured when a motorbike rider crashed into her when she was training in Da Nang last week.

She was thrown on to the pavement unconscious and her right shinbone was broken and she also sustained other injuries.

Her leg is in plaster and she will take three months to walk normally and six months to resume training, according to doctors at the Da Nang General Hospital.

Hang, 26, who was born in HCM City but represents Ninh Binh, rose to prominence after winning a national title in 2004.

Since 2007 she has won three gold medals, three silvers, and three bronzes at Asian-level events including the Asiad in 800m and 1,500m events. In the biennial Southeast Asian Games she has failed to win gold only once in the two distances since 2005. — VNS
