HCM CITY (VNS) — Young amateur filmmakers left a strong impression on the jury and audience at the second HCM City Film Festival for Students held on Sunday.

The Golden Prize for short film category was presented to Nguoi Thay Nam Ay (The Teacher in the Past), a 15-minute work produced by students of the HCM City University of Agriculture and Forestry. The film is about memories of a student.

The 25-minute Nguoi Ke Giac Mo (Dream Teller), sent by the University of Foreign Language and Information Technology, won the Golden Prize for best reportage.

Both works highlighted love, humanity and ambition.

As many as 105 short films, reportages, music videos and trailers were sent to the festival, organised by the city's Viet Nam Students Association and its partners.

The event gave young participants from 28 universities and colleges an opportunity to explore their creativity in film.

Most of the works featured stories related to youth and their dreams and hopes.

Nhung Trai Tim Viet Nam (Vietnamese Hearts) of Ton Duc Thang University received the prize for best music video.

It features over 100 artists and 1,000 students who sing the national anthem together to celebrate the 70th anniversary of National Day. It has more than 840,000 viewers.

Vu Ngoc Thanh, rector of the HCM City University of Theatre and Cinematography, a member of the organising board, said: "Our students worked hard on filming. They have brought their stories about school to life in a realistic way."

The jury panel included skilled directors and cinematographers from film studios and cinematography schools, such as Nguyen Cong Ninh and Vo Van Thenh. They chose the winners from15 nominations.

The best films will be screened in Galaxy cinemas. — VNS
