HA NOI (VNS)— Hoang Quy Phuoc will carry Viet Nam's national flag during the opening ceremony of the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar on December 11.

The swimmer takes the honour after his successful competitions at the fourth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in July, where he won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal in South Korea.

His height of 1.82m is also one of the reasons in naming him the nation's flag carrier.

The SEA Games champion will arrive in Myanmar's capital, Nay Pyi Taw, to defend his two titles in the men's 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle events.

Hoang Quy Phuoc will leave for competitions with Viet Nam's main team tonight from Noi Bai International Airport in Ha Noi.

The other 171 members of the delegation will compete in boxing, canoeing, futsal, wushu, pencak silat, cycling, swimming, and men's football.

The next group will depart on December 9, while the remaining team members will fly to Myanmar on December 14.

Much of the Games will be broadcast live on Viet Nam Television (VTV) channels (VTV2, VTV3 and VTV6).

VTV officials have decided to air live all 16 matches of the men's football team and eight of the women's matches, which include all games Viet Nam is competing in.

The national TV station will also televise live interviews and reports during the biennial Games.
