The ancient city of Hoi An has introduced new craft
products made from Firmiana colorata, commonly known as the Chinese
parasol tree, a big tree in Cham Island.
The central city of Hoi An will provide free ticket for tourists
visiting the ancient town tomorrow, Friday, on the occasion of the
Heritage Day and the 16th anniversary of Hoi An''s recognition as a world
heritage city by UNESCO.
Villages in farmland surrounding Hoi An are highly
popular with environment-loving tourists. Visitors are greeted with a
smile and offered an inside look at rural Viet Nam among the green paddy
fields and vast forests of nipa palms.
Cham Island, 18km off the coast of Hoi An, will host
a series programmes to mark the fifth anniversary of its recognition as
a world biosphere reserve by UNESCO from Friday to Monday.
To many Westerners, travel-ling on old ferries full
of vil-lagers and baskets of vegetables, chickens and squealing pigs is a
sheer delight. It''s time to lay back, chat or snooze as the sturdy
vessels churn through the water.
