A painting entitled The Rice Seller by Nguyen Phan Chanh was sold for
US$390,000 last weekend at an auction held by Christie''s International
in Hong Kong, setting a new record for a work by a Vietnamese artist,
according to Bloomberg.
A group of Japanese fine-arts specialists has agreed
to continue preserving and restoring Vietnamese silk paintings,
especially those of late painter Nguyen Phan Chanh (1892-1984). The
agreement was signed with the Viet Nam Museum of Fine Arts yesterday.
Artists and fine-arts lovers yesterday celebrate the birth of Nguyen Phan Chanh (1892-1984) in Ha Noi. "Chanh
is considered one of Viet Nam''s foremost silk artists," said Tran Khanh
Chuong, chairman of the Viet Nam Fine Arts Association.
