T&T set to regain top V-League spot

Ha Noi T&T are likely to return to the top of the V-League Eximbank 2012 tournament this weekend as current leaders SHB Da Nang face a tough away match against defending champions Song Lam Nghe An.

HCM CITY — Ha Noi T&T are likely to return to the top of the V-League Eximbank 2012 tournament this weekend as current leaders SHB Da Nang face a tough away match against defending champions Song Lam Nghe An.

Meanwhile, the team from the capital city, which temporarily ceded the top spot to Da Nang after their 13th game with Navibank Sai Gon was delayed, will play an away match against newly-promoted side Kien Giang.

Coach Phan Thanh Hung's players are clear favourites to win the match as Kien Giang are struggling to stay clear of the relegation zone.

However, today's centerpiece will be the showdown between Da Nang and Nghe An.

Both clubs, coached by former national stars, are in good form with two wins in the last two weeks.

Le Huynh Duc and his players have not won a match at Vinh Stadium in recent years, and turning this record around is going to be a difficult task, especially given that Nghe An are a vigorous opponent at the moment.

Becamex Binh Duong stand a good chance to return to the leading group despite playing away against Ha Noi FC at Hang Day Stadium.

In other matches, Navibank Sai Gon's captain Phan Van Tai Em has said they aim to win three points against in-form Hoang Anh Gia Lai.

"To distance us away from relegation zone, we have to take advantage of home soil to take full points on Saturday," he said.

"Hoang Anh Gia Lai's recent good results are based on the team spirit and the brilliant form of Nigerian goalkeeper Bassey Akpan."

Ninh Binh are at 11th place, just three points from the danger zone.

They will have to battle Thanh Hoa, who play well at home, for three points.

Khanh Hoa, placed 10th, will play 13th-placed Dong Thap while bottom side Hai Phong will meet Sai Gon FC in what is expected to be a tough tussle. — VNS
