DA NANG (VNS) — A goal from Senegalese striker Abass Cheikh Dieng helped Binh Duong edge out Da Nang 2-1 in the quarter-final of National Football Cup yesterday.
The 29-year-old drove the goal home after a pass from from teammate Anh Duc in the 76th minute to secure a crucial win in the knock-out round.
Visitors Da Nang took a 1-0 lead after 44 minutes, when Ho Ngoc Thang netted the ball after a weak display from Binh Duong's defence, but Binh Duong striker Nguyen Anh Duc later equalised the score with a high corner shot in the 51st minute.
Da Nang mounted a fierce campaign to equal the score, but their efforts failed.
Hai Phong also qualified for the cup semi-final after beating Quang Nam team 3-1 at home Lach Tray Stadium yesterday.
Jamaica's Andrea Diego Fagan scored twice and Hoang Dinh Tung added one goal for Hai Phong.
Thanh Van from Quang Nam managed to hit back with one goal for the club but the side failed to produce more opportunities.
At Quang Ninh, the hosts were defeated 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.
The last quarter-final match will see Dak Lak hosting Long An at Buon Ma Thuot tomorrow. — VNS
