HCM CITY (VNS) — With great effort, especially in the second set, Vietnamese No 1 ranked tennis player Ly Hoang Nam lost to No 1 seeded Akira Santillan of Japan 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) in the final of the Chang Thailand ITF Junior G1 in Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday.

To reach the final, Nam defeated No 4 Marc Polmans of Australia and No 2 Djurabeck Karimov of Uzbekistan. He had not lost any earlier sets.

Santillan is No 12 world junior player, who bested Nam, world junior No 70, in the Australia Open 2015's second round.

Winning the tournament's second place, Nam will receive 100 points and is likely to return to be listed among the world's top 50 young players.

This was the first time Nam has qualified for a world junior tennis championship held by the International Tennis Federation. — VNS
