HA NOI (VNS)–Nguyen Ha Thanh added one silver and one bronze to Viet Nam's medal haul at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships which are ongoing in Fujian Province, China.
Thanh scored 15.350 points to finish second in the men's horse vault, and 15.750 to take third place in the parallel event.
Viet Nam, after seven days of competition, has earned one gold, one silver and one bronze.
China grabbed four more gold medals to finish with a total of 10.
Liu Rongbing turned out the most decorated athlete. After winning gold in the men's team, all around and pommel horse events, the 21-year-old Chinese snatched his fourth title on the horizontal bar with 15.900 points.
Zhou Shixiong, another medal prospect for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games,won the parallel bar at 15.976 points with a well executed routine which had a 7.0 degree of difficulty.
Shang Chunsong was the queen of the day. The 16-year-old earned the highest score – 15.225 – on the balance beam before topping the scoring for the floor exercise with 14.600.
North Korea captured two golds thanks to veteran Ri Se-gwang's standout performance on the men's rings and vault.
Athletes will compete in the final day today in the men's individual and team all-round events. Viet Nam are in Group 1 with Pakistan, Iran and Kuwait.
Thanh and his teammate Pham Phuoc Hung, who was one of two Vietnamese Olympians in London, are expected to be in the top three. Hung won a gold medal in September at the World Cup 2012 in Ghent, Belgium. — VNS
