Thanh clinches second World Challenge Cup title

HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese Phan Thi Ha Thanh won her second gold medal at the Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup, the Osijek Grand Prix, on the competition's last day on Sunday, in Croatia.

Thanh came first in the women's balanced beam discipline, scoring 14,025 points.

Kim Un-hyang of North Korea came second, pocketing 13,850 points. The third place went to Giulia Steingruber of Switzerland, who earned 13,550.

Thanh later grabbed a bronze medal in the floor event.

The World Cup winner (13,425) ranked behind Steingruber (13,675) and Isabela Onyshko from Canada (13,575), respectively.

Thanh won her first gold in her strongest discipline, the vault, on Saturday.

The five-gymnast Vietnamese team finished the tournament with two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze medal.

The team will next compete at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, in August.

This will be their last preparatory event before taking part in the most important event of the year, the 19th Asian Games, to be held in South Korea, in September. — VNS
