HA NOI — Nguyen Thanh Tam of An Giang Plant Protection won the sixth and final stage of the International Cycling Tour to the Northern Delta yesterday.
Trinh Duc Tam took the overall leader's yellow jersey after finishing in the pack.
The 136km stage from Lang Son City to Ha Noi City saw cyclists from Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap 1 stick close to Dutch CCN racers to secure top place in the team competition.
Ha Noi rode an attacking race to protect the position for yellow jersey holder Duc Tam.
With 2km to go, Thanh Tam and Kim Kunsoo of South Korea broke away from the pack and headed to the finish together. Thanh Tam outsprinted his foreign rival to cross the finish line in a time of 3hr 11min 53sec. Kunsoo and his teammate Park Jiyoung came in second and third.
Duc Tam retained the lead with an overall time of 18:11.07, followed by Lex Nederlof of CCN (18:11.59) and Nguyen Tan Hoai of Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap 1 (18:16.19). Duc Tam also claimed the white jersey for the best young cyclist.
Finishing the stage in fifth place, Bui Minh Thuy of ADC-Vinh Long Television took the green jersey with 46 points.
Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap 1 won the team competition in a time of 54:45.51, followed by CCN (54:46.03) and An Giang Plant Protection (54:53.45). — VNS
