HCM CITY (VNS)— Top seed Nguyen Dac Tien is in the hunt for two more titles to add to his tally at the International Tennis Federation's 14-and-Under Division 2 Championship in HCM City, after qualifying for another final.
Ha Noi-born Tien outclassed Janahi Fares of the United Arab Emirates 6-1,6-3 to reach the boys' singles final, where he will meet his compatriot Tu Minh Tri, who overcame Nguyen Mau Vinh Quang 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in the other semi-final.
In the boys doubles category Tien and Le Phuoc Dang reached the final after beating Tu Minh Tri and Nguyen Dinh Khoi Nguyen 7-5, 6-3.
There they will face Singaporean duo Kuah Timothy and Law Tzemming, who edged out Murtaza Muzammil and Kaleem Syed Nofil in the semifinals.
Success in both events today would see Tien claim a remarkable four titles at the tournament, after his victories in the Tour 1 contest.
The host country are also competing for titles in the girls' event after Nguyen Linh Tiffany and Nguyen Thu Phuong defeated Goh Yee Loon and Seah Charmaine of Singapore 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Tiffany and Phuong will next play against Vaziri Sadaf Sadegh and Alofi Shaema in the final.
However, there was also some disappointment for Viet Nam with both girls missing out on a place in the singles final.
Tiffany was knocked out by Vaziri in straight sets in the semifinals and Phuong fell to Alofi. They will hope to claim some revenge later today.-VNS
