HA NOI (VNS)– V-League champions SHB Da Nang will play Semen Padang of Indonesia this afternoon for a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Asian Football Confederation Cup.

Da Nang are second-placed in group G with 12 points after six matches while Semen Padang lead group E without loss.

Coach Le Huynh Duc has brought his best players to Indonesia, except for midfielder Cosmin Goian because of illness. They include national striker Huynh Quoc Anh, who has recently won the Golden Ball title for best player, goalie Nguyen Thanh Binh and midfielder Pham Nguyen Sa.

However Duc claimed that Da Nang are exhausted because of V-League's thick competition schedule during the last three months. They suffered a 1-4 defeat in their match last week.

Meanwhile Semen Padang have shown their line-up with a group of national team members, including defenders Wahyu Wijiastanto, Novan Setyo Sasongko, midfielders Elie Aiboy, Vendry Mofu and striker Titus Bonai. They also present Liberian scorer Edward Wilson who has pocketed eight out of 15 goals for his team during the group round matches.

Semen Padang are at their peak in their local tournament, holding the top position after six rounds. However their strength will be partly affected by the absence through injury of goalkeeper Jandia Eka Putra and Argentinean midfielder Esteban Vizcarra.

The match will be aired live on StarSport channel at 4pm.

The Vietnamese and Indonesian clubs have clashed seven times. The Indonesian side won four.

Also since Viet Nam debuted at the AFC Cup in 2007, 11 Vietnamese squads participated and only five entered the last eight rounds.

In other football news, Hai Phong will meet Xuan Thanh Sai Gon during a late match of the V-League on their home ground today.

Hai Phong are now in third place on the ranking table while Xuan Thanh are ninth. – VNS
