NGHE AN (VNS) — A central folk singing show will be organised from next month for tourists in Sen Village, the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh, in the central province of Nghe An.

According to Pham Tien Dung, deputy head of Nghe An's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said local authorities will train local amateur singers to perform at the event.

Dung said performances would be held at 7.30pm on Saturday and Sunday, and last for 30 minutes.

According to the Cultural Heritage Department, there are 75 groups practising vi and dam (central folk singing) with 1,500 members in Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

The art form has been recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO

In the central provinces, songs are not accompanied by musical instruments. People sing them while they cultivate rice, row boats or make conical hats, besides lulling children to sleep. — VNS
