Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram of the HCM-City-based National Sports Training Centre won a gold medal and broke the national record in the U14 girls' 50m butterfly at the National Youth Swimming Championships in HCM City yesterday.
The 14-year-old swimmer took the lead with a time of 28.34sec, defeating the old record of 28.41 set by Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen of HCM City in 2010.
The silver medal went to Le Thien Kim of Long An with a time of 29.57 and Ngo Thu Ha of Quang Ninh won the bronze medal with a time of 30.30.
At last year's event, Tram also won a gold medal in this category and broke the national record in the U13 girls' event with a time of 28.35.
Besides the gold medal, Tram also won a silver medal in the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:35.91 yesterday.
In the opening day on Thursday, Tram won two gold medals in the women's 200m medley and 200m backstroke.
After two days of competition, HCM City took the lead with eight gold, four silver and 10 bronze medals. Long An came in second with seven gold, nine silver and four bronze medals. Dong Nai replaced Quang Binh to rank third with five gold, three silver and one bronze medals.
