HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese female badminton ace Vu Thi Trang has reached the second round at the Li Ning World Badminton Championships which is taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The 20-year-old needed only 25 minutes to see off Vicente Lohaynny of Brazil 21-14, 21-12 in the first round of the women's singles.

The Bac Giang-based player's second-round opponent will be world No 17 and 15th-seeded Eriko Hirose of Japan, who received a bye in the first round.

Viet Nam's other representative at the championships Nguyen Tien Minh is also is expected to book a place in the second round in the men's singles when he takes on Howard Shu of the US later. — VNS
