HANOI (VNS) — Dao Minh Trang was the only Vietnamese to pass through yesterday's first round match in the International Tennis Federation's Junior Circuit in HCM City.
Trang defeated Masako Makiba of Japan 6-4, 6-3 in the girls' singles event.
Her next rival is Kamonluk Kittitanon of Thailand. It will be a tough task for the Thai girl, who is a wildcard holder. Her rival is the tournament's No 1 seed.
Kittitanon yesterday won 6-3, 6-3 over Venia Yeung of Hong Kong.
Other Vietnamese in the girls' side were Si Boi Ngoc and Dao Thu Uyen. They both lost.
In the boys' singles, wildcard Nguyen Mau Vinh Quang had no chance against Charles Roberts of Thailand, losing 6-4, 6-3.
The tournament for U18 players is organised at the Phu Tho Tennis Club. Athletes take part in boys' and girls' singles and doubles pools. The finals are planned on Sunday. — VNS
