HA NOI (VNS)— Nguyen Thanh Tung pocketed a second gold medal for Viet Nam yesterday at the World Games in Cali, Colombia.

Tung successfully triumphed in the men's taijijian, an event of wushu which originated in China, with 19.43 points. The two runners-up were Lee Yang from Malaysia and Lu Rufei of China.

His teammate Duong Thuy Vi pocketed a silver in the women's qiangshu event, and Nguyen Manh Quyen was runner-up in the men's daoshu discipline.

Earlier, Viet Nam triumphed at the mixed doubles event of the aerobics.

Tran Thu Ha and Vu Ba Dong entered the final together with France, Spain, and Romania with only 20.450 points, lowest among the finalists. While title favourites China and Russia were surprisingly eliminated from the qualifier.

In the finals, all four pairs shared same points of 20.450 and all became the champions, which is the first ever happened in the World Games history.

The first medal of Viet Nam went to karate martial artist Nguyen Hoang Ngan who won a silver in the individual kata (performance) event.

Viet Nam claimed two golds and three silvers at the Games, which closed yesterday.

The next Games, which is an international multi-sport event organised every four years, will be held in Wroclaw, Poland, in 2017. — VNS
