TV specials celebrate National Day

HCM City Television (HTV) has introduced special programmes this week to mark the 67th anniversary of National Day on September 2.

HCM CITY — HCM City Television (HTV) has introduced special programmes this week to mark the 67th anniversary of National Day on September 2.

Duong Thanh Tung, deputy director of the station's Culture and Entertainment Division, said music shows would highlight revolutionary music.

"Our shows feature popular songs in praise of people and soldiers who devoted their lives to fight for the country's independence," he said.

The highlight will be To Quoc Yeu Thuong (Our Beloved Country), a variety show staged by dozens of professional performers in music, dance and theatre. It will air on HTV9 channel in the evening on September 1.

A documentary, Mua Thu Lich Su (The Historic Autumn), will be aired on September 4. Filmmakers spent months collecting information and documents from local historians and witnesses to make the works.

In Ha Noi, an open-air music concert on September 3 at Bach Thao Park will feature award-winning works by veteran composers Tran Huu Bich, Dinh Trung Can and Thanh Binh. All of the pieces will feature the themes of peace and love.

Violinist Doan Hoa and pianist Thuy Trang will perform with support from the Viet Nam Symphony Orchestra. The show will be rebroadcast on HTV9 on September 5.

Theatre

HCM City's Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theatre will tour to rural districts of Cu Chi and Hoc Mon to stage special shows beginning on Sunday night, as part of its activities to mark the National Day.

Veteran and young cai luong (reformed theatre) artists will sing and dance together in new plays depicting President Ho Chi Minh and his revolutionary career.

The city's Youth Cultural House this week launched many cultural and community activities, which have attracted several thousand young people every night.

Student amateurs from local universities will perform in historical dramas that highlight the country's greatest victories. — VNS
